Hey guys I was rejected from the engineering program at UMD for fall 2012 so I decided I would spent a year at a regional college (UMBC) and then apply as a transfer student. I would like to know whether it's easier to get accepted by transferring (as opposed to getting accepted the traditional way) and also whether UMD gives more consideration to in-state transfer students?

I’m transferring to University of Maryland as an engineering major but the only difference between me and you is that I didn’t apply as a freshman to College Park. According to my transfer advisor, she said that most people who applied as a freshman and got rejected will have little success in transferring until their junior year. My only advice is to try applying again and again. If you really want to attend College Park, it’s the only way to go unfortunately. You do have an advantage over out of state students but overall you will need to have a high GPA to transfer nevertheless.
