So right now I am at a 4 year university, but I do not like it here. I am originally a Maryland resident. I am out at an out of state school right now. As a freshman, I will be finished my Fall semester after winter break. I would like to come back home to Maryland and do my second semester of college at a CC like ccbc or Howard, and apply to Maryland as a sophomore transfer.

I was wondering how that would look to Maryland to change to another school mid year and have a freshman transcript from 2 different schools. I calculated that I will likely finish freshman year with about a 3.8gpa. Do you think U of Maryland would have issues with my decision or would it not matter as long as my gpa and admissions materials are good?

KD13333 - I’m sorry to hear that your out of state freshman year isn’t working out for you. Did you have any concern before even going away to your current school that it might not be successful for you? I’m just asking because I worry about that sometimes.

In answer to your question - Have you spoken to UMD about it? Maybe you can take some classes at UMD this spring (without matriculating), and apply as a transfer student, too? I don’t know if that is possible - just trying to think of all the options…

Did you apply to UMD last year? And if so - had you been accepted and then chose to go out of state instead - OR had you not been accepted 9or was waitlisted), etc.? I ask because I would think those answers might factor into how they would view your transfer application.
