Transfering with an embarrassing GPA, chance me?

I am graduating this May from Austin Community College with an Associate of Arts Degree in General Studies. It started out as Associate of Science in Archaeology, but it was just taking too long. I graduated high school in '09 and since I’m getting a degree I don’t believe my high school stuff (grades, test scores, etc.) matter. Suffice it to say that I was 200-something out of like 700 seniors, and had slightly above average test scores.

Anyway, as I said, I’m graduating from ACC with a degree and I will have 62 course hours at the end of this semester because of it. I am a first-generation, Mexican-American female college student. I want to transfer into COLA, majoring in Classical Archaeology, but I think my GPA will make the admissions team laugh at me so hard that they get a six-pack.

My father died when I was a baby, mom never remarried, she never went to college so we survived on her receptionist income. Because of all of that I think my 3 essays will be very sufficient. I’m counting on them, and my associate’s degree, to carry me. My grades sucked in the first few semesters at ACC, but increased A LOT after I took a 2-semester break (to help my mom after she lost her job) and then got back in the saddle.

My current GPA is 2.87, and if I get a 4.0 this semester (95% sure), then I’ll graduate with a 3.0.
I am beyond determined, and so so so motivated.
Do I even have a snowball’s chance in hell?

I think you do have a snowballs chance in hell. Your GPA makes it really hard, but when you take your personal story for account it may give you some room. I would suggest talking to professors or anyone at the Archaeology department to heighten your chances of admission. At this point, doing anything should help you. I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you!
