I am trying to transfer to UT Austin this Spring 2014. I have a couple of areas of concern, but first, here are my stats:

School Attending: ACC
Current GPA: 3.57
GPA Intended After Fall Semester/Before Transfer: 3.72
Classes Taken: Texas Hist, American Gov, Texas Gov, English I (AP credit), College Math, Intro to Art, Intro to Archaeology, Cultural Anthropology, Spanish I, Spanish II
Classes For Fall: English II, Spanish III, Spanish IV, Engineering Physics I (two of these are honors classes, so I'm not sure if they consider weighted GPAs or what...)
Extras: Honors Program, Phi Theta Kappa

I will be transferring with all my UG GE classes except for English Literature and Physics II. Also of importance, I am applying to both the Linguistics department as well as the Anthropology department, with a desire to double major in the two (as I am looking towards Linguistic Anthropology in grad school.)

The main issue: Before attending ACC, I lived in another state and attended a CC there. As this point, I really didn't know what I wanted to do and took a myriad of courses and did very poorly in a quite few. I finally decided to take some time off and move to Austin, about a year in total, and afterwards went back to school with a serious understanding of what I want to pursue. As such, one of the transcripts I will be sending in is awful (not sure exactly what the GPA is, but under a 3.0) and I am afraid it is going to tank me. I plan to write the optional essay, not to write my sob story, but just to explain that I started college originally because I was always just knew that is what I was supposed to do, bombed, took some time off, and am now pursuing my education with a real passion for my field. As far as the essays go, I am not concerned too much, as I have always done really well with essays. I am also working on ECs before the deadline as well as recommendation letters.

So what do you guys think, will my old community college transcript prevent me from getting accepted? Has anyone heard of or been in similar circumstances? Alternatively, I could take spring semester at ACC and finish the two remaining GEs I need in order to bump my GPA even further if that would help at all. Deadline for Spring is October, so I am trying to organize some thoughts on this.

Sorry for the wall of text!
