Hello, my name is Madeline. For years I have struggled with math. It came down to a point where I was literally passing all my classes with flying colors, except for math, which was causing me major problems with my anxiety disorder. My mom had me tested, and it turns out I have a math disability (I'm pretty sure it referred to as dyscalculia.) My disability makes math really, really hard for me. My documentation makes me eligible for a math waiver, basically courses which enable me to take classes in replacement of math, to serve said needed credits.

The ONLY thing that kept me from getting into a University was my math ACT score. I graduated from an Art School as an award winning writer (3 national awards) with a 3.0 GPA, and I am only saying this because it infuriates me on how a score of 17 in math basically stops me from going to a University like UWF.

Trouble is, I really, really want to go to UWF for a number of reasons. 1) I want to be on my own, in a dorm, living the college life experience and not living with my parents. 2) My boyfriend goes to UWF and I would like to be with him. The number 1 reason is obviously my main one.

I emailed UWF about my disability, and how I'm taking replacement courses to settle my credits, and asked if it were possible to transfer into them. They told me to simply retake the ACT, and write an essay on my struggles in math and how I should include my "willingness to improve." I took that into meaning I need to take a math course, and I feel as though they completely disregarded the fact I have documented evidence of a math disability.

I am at a loss. I really want to transfer in a year, and not have to wait to get my AA degree. Does anyone have ANY advice?
