I'm thinking about transferring to another school. I am currently a freshman in college. I go to an urban ivy league university. Everything here isn't what I expected- they don't have the programs I am looking for and people here sometimes seem to be more interested in partying than being smarter. Everyone here is smart but I feel like I haven't learned anything new here since I've been here. I am in a variety of clubs on campus, but none of them are really sparking any interest. I really want to transfer to another school that is more intimate and has more students who are like me- who don't always have to go out on the weekends and not feel outcasted for that. I am thinking about applying to either Brown or Duke University. I was accepted to Duke during high school but not a Brown. I want to know what are my chances of getting in to the schools? I'm also looking for a diverse music program.

Are you at Upenn? Apparently their music program blows.

In any case, you might be putting your education on a pedestal. If you’re already at an Ivy, you’ll be hard pressed to find any other school with a student body THAT much more intellectual and intelligent than the one you already have.

Partying happens everywhere. It’s something you’ll have to deal with

if you keep your gpa high, you will have an excellent shot, especially since your HS record will have more weight and you obviously had a good record since you’re already in an ivy. the thing with brown is that they don’t take essays or writing samples, so if you’re set on applying there you should start forming strong relationships with professors ASAP, as their recommendations will help your application immensely. i think you’ll have a great shot if you’re getting good grades and can write strong essays for duke. best of luck.
