Transferred to FSU and not liking it so far....

Hello, I'm originally from south Florida (Ft. Lauderdale). I went to Broward College, a community college in South Florida and was in the honors program. I had to go to community college for financial reasons and the honors institute at BC sounded good because they gave me a scholarship each semester...

I originally wanted to major in Social Work. I transferred with my AA to FSU because they have a top Social Work school in Florida. However, after taking SW classes at FSU, I decided that this major was not for me. I decided to go into FSU's College of Business. I am finishing up a few prereq's that I didn't take because I was a SW major originally. So far I am very disappointed with FSU's College of Business. The prereq professors for the College of Business that I currently have are very rude and discouraging. Also, the staff within the College of Business are also very rude and condescending.

I want to major in accounting and have been discouraged by some of the staff at FSU. I'm hoping to stick it out, receive my BA here and then go to grad school somewhere else. I want to leave FSU because I can't seem to get used to it here. It is the total opposite of South Florida. I feel pretty lonely because I still haven't made very many friends. I would like to return to South Florida after my BA, and was thinking about attending University of Miami's Grad school to get my MA in Accounting.

My questions are: Should I deal with FSU's crap and stay here for grad school and study accounting? Or would it be a good idea to apply to Grad school at University of Miami for accounting? I'm not sure if accounting is a strength at UM. I know FSU's accounting program is ranked fairly high, but I don't think I can take it here much longer.

You need to decide what you want to do outside of your hatred for FSU. You are going from social work to business to finance and the reasons seem shaky. It seems like you do not like FSU in general and because of that, you do not like any of your classes there. You stated you do not like FSU, haven’t made friends, and just want out. There is no way you can make a proper decision about your major when you hate everything around you.

Do not go to FSU for grad school because you clearly hate it. You will be in a pretty similar environment and you haven’t yet made it clear why you want to go into accounting besides your hatred for the business program.

It might help you to try some internships in the various fields you studied to really determine what is right for you. Do not think about grad school right now because there are a lot of factors that are affecting your decision. When you are in a crappy place like that, you want to move on anyway you can. Really think about the options you have without factoring in your feelings about the quality of FSUs program and then decide if accounting is for you.

If you are from Ft Lauderdale and hate FSU, have you considered returning to South Florida and attending FAU to finish your Bachelor?

The Accounting dept at FAU is one of the best departments in the College of Business @ FAU and does have a good reputation.
