Is it a reasonable idea to transfer from a community college after just 1 year of going there? I want to get out as soon as possible, but im not sure if i should go right after the first year, or stay for the 2nd to graduate with an associates, then transfer.

I have several friends who have transferred from a community college after one year.

it is if u can do it. But, it's pretty hard since most schools only offer junior transfer w/ at least 60 units.

I know several colleges that accept transfers with credits ranging from 24 up to 60.

Depends on the student & the program you're transferring into. A friend's son went to a CA community college for a year while trying to decide which college he wanted to attend. He figured it out & talked his way into being admitted at UC-Boulder as an out-of-state transfer student, where he's very happy.
I was an exchange student from my state U to an out-of-state U after one year & then transferred to that school for good because I enjoyed my time & experience there.

Well i want to transfer to UConn which states that once you have 12 credits after high school you are considered a transfer. And i can get that many in one semester.

Why not call UConn & talk with them. They will provide you with the best info. You can also speak with the folks at the UConn & community college about the pros & cons of transferring at different points in your academic career. Good luck!

I can think of good schools that accept students after one year- Virginia Tech, Tennessee, UVa... Its a lot, you just gotta look for them. Good luck!

100% of the top 25 taking transfers accept 1yr transfers. In my Dartmoth transfer class 75% were first year transfers.

I transferred out after my first year of community college to Northwestern. It kind of sucks because I really loved my CC, and the price was oh so right...

If you transfer after 1 year, do you still have a chance to make friends before everyones off in their own cliques.

Depends what school you go to, some are more transfer friendly than others. I chose Dartmouth over 3 other top 10 schools partially because it was so transfer friendly. Columbia on the other hand is a nightmare for transfers socially. It all depends on the individual school.

Well i plan on transferring to UConn, i dont know how transfer friendly it is.

i would DIE to get into Columbia as a transfer....it is my top choice....

oooo new york city.....

I transferred to UOregon as a sophomore & had no problems making lots of friends the year I transferred & the year afterwards. Living in the dorms make making friends easy & fun. A lot depends on your mindset when you apply & attend school.
