Is this ever allowed? I know almost all schools require a specific number of credit hours before transfer, but what if these requirements have been met through AP credits and summer school? Is there anything I can do to transfer after just one semester?

Depends on the school, stanford only takes fall applicants for instance. I would think you would have a the real problem finding schools that will review applicants for admission for the middle of the year.

The credit issue is to prevent hs students from coming as transfers with just ap credit, I dont think you will have a problem qualifing as a transfer if you are actually at another college.

It is very college specific so you will just have to check for each college. It is not unheard of to transfer after just one semester but make sure you have a good reason for not giving your current college a chance.

This is almost impossible to do with the UCs. They require atleast 60 credits from CCs to transfer and dont even consider 1 year transfers anymore. I hear USC might but they are very strict on the 30 credit transfer.

Rice requires only 12 hrs to transfer

UVa requires one full year of college study and a minimum of 30 hours before transferring, as do JMU and George Mason, Chapel Hill, Duke, Wake Forest, etc.
