Transferring and enjoying one's undergraduate experience

Hey everyone. I recently found out from Cornell that I am a GT, or a Guaranteed Transfer. It is this strange program in which a student spends 1 or 1.5 years at another university and then matriculates to Cornell.

My other acceptances were Hamilton, Grinnell, and William & Mary, so I would ultimately have to attend one of those institutions first (although I'm not sure which, I need help on that as well).

I realize that people are suppose to transfer when they are very unhappy with their current undergrad experience. I am fairly sure that I would enjoy Hamilton and William & Mary, as they have stellar academics and are really fun places from what I've heard. The only problem I have with either institution is that they are very good, but not great. Cornell is universally recognized as a academic powerhouse.

Would the prospects of transferring destroy my college experience if I do it for this reason? Has anyone transferred not because they are unhappy, but because they want to attend a better institution? Should I do it?

"Strange" is certainly the right word. A method to steal students from other colleges, if you ask me.

You might find that you're perfectly satisfied with one of your three choices. As a freshman I toyed with the idea of transferring, but now I'm going to have to be dragged out after graduation. :D I wouldn't recommend it, but I don't think transferring would destroy your college experience provided that Cornell is a good fit.

bumpppppppp

How about this:
Go to one of the other schools, wait, and see how you feel when the time comes. By that point, you'll have a better sense of whether it's worth it or not than you do now.
