Hey everyone. I’m a student from California, but I moved to Arizona to attend a Community College with the intent to attend an AZ university, but plans have changed and I want to head back to California after my second year here. My GPA was a 3.81 and right now it’s around a 3.5. My family still lives in California, so my question is: Will California schools accept me as an out-of-state transfer? Which Cali schools do I have a good chance getting into? My major will be in the Communications field. If my family still lives in California and I transfer to a CA school, will I be considered in-state or out-of-state? Basically I’m concerned if I can even get into a California school even though I’m from an Arizona Community College. Any advice helps. Thanks!
Were you considered a dependent on your parents’ tax returns the past 2 years?
You should have a chance at CSUs. UCs may be harder.
You’ll have to apply this Fall for Fall 2016 transfer. Also this Fall, you’ll have to enroll in a CA CC and take courses you might need to complete before transfer, as all the courses you’ve taken, may not transfer over.
If you can attend a CA CC this summer, you should be able to get some transfer advice.
Also check assist.org.
Good luck!
Yeah, I was considered a dependent. This fall I’ll still be in Arizona completing my General Ed in case I want to transfer to an Arizona school, so I can’t go to a CA CC just yet. I’ll be home in CA this summer, should I speak to a university advisor or a CC advisor? I want to know if my courses will transfer. This is all pretty confusing. I hope some courses can transfer.
You should be in-state for California (check, of course). If you can decide if you want to transfer to a California University or an Arizona one right now, the chance of successful transfer will be greater, since you can focus on satisfying one set of requirements. You could TAG (or ulink UCSD from a San Diego CC) a UC.
Go to the nearest Community College to where you are living this summer. Call in advance for an appointment.
