Transferring College Credits

What classes do you suggest transferring credits in? In other word, what classes do you suggest taking at a local college/university because some classes at UT can be quite rigorous. Also, is there a limit on how many credits we can transfer?

What majors are you applying for?

@danfer91 Pharmacy.

There’s a list of required courses for the first two years. Just looking at it I would try to take both organic chems and maybe microbiology at your college now. I did microbio at a local CC and I’m sure it was much easier there than it would have been at UT. Also check the course equivalency guide link at the bottom to cross reference classes you’ve already taken to make sure they will transfer. I’m fairly certain you’re required to take Calculus at UT. If you want you can pm me your current institution and classes you’ve already taken and I can cross reference them with a degree audit and see what will count towards your pharmacy degree and what you might have to retake. Also, the maximum number of hours you can transfer is 60.

@danfer91 Ok. Thank you so much for your help! I was also wondering, do you suggest taking intro/freshman courses like English, Hist, Bio, Econ at CC? I know that when transferring in credits, UT doesn’t count it towards GPA. So is it a benefit to exempt/take the easy courses somewhere else & focus on the major course at UT?

Just try to get as many hours as possible to transfer while only taking 60 hours. It may not be this way for Pharmacy, but the vast majority of applications to UT with over 60 hours are at a detriment. This is because you have to take 60 hours in-residence at UT-Austin in order to get a Bachelor’s, and 36 hours of upper division coursework (Junior/Senior level work).

I’m already admitted to UT as a high school senior, but all these info really helps! Thanks!

Regarding taking classes at UT or elsewhere, my advisor gave me this pdf for reference. Generally take your science related classes at UT.
