Hi so I am planning on transferring to a university after one semester in College. I’m super scared because the university I am applying to says I need at least a 2.0 GPA and I’m afraid I will be failing one of my classes. I heard that if you transfer after one semester of college they will look at your high school SAT scores and transcript? I did pretty well in high school so would failing one of my classes be a huge deal in transferring after one semester?
I heard that the transfer school will put a significant emphasis on my high school grades?
You should ask the transfer admissions office of your target schools. Perhaps consider withdrawing from your failing class too? Speak to your current school’s academic advisor. good luck
The minimum grade requirement of 2.0 isn’t unusual, and many schools require a 3.0 or higher to transfer in. They want to make sure you can handle the rigor of their school and be successful there. Could you stay another semester where you are and concentrate on getting your GPA as high as you can (while taking classes that will transfer)?
Yes, failing a class certainly could be an problem as it shows an inability to handle a college level class at an acceptable level. Both your HS record and your first semester college transcripts will be reviewed as part of the transfer process. Agree completely with @T26E4 suggestions. I would add that if you can’t withdraw from the class without ramifications then you should immediately seek out extra help (meeting with professor or TA regularly, getting a tutor etc.) to try to bring up the grade. Take action now.
