Transferring credits from other colleges?

I am slightly miffed that practically none of my 'A' Level results can be used to claim any credits, and I really do want to graduate as soon as possible, perhaps even cutting an entire semester and saving a fair bit of money in the process. Is it possible to take classes from other colleges like Baruch and/or CUNY in the summer to transfer credits? I am interested to know about Stern, in particular.

If you’re an NYU student, and you take summer classes outside of NYU, they won’t really look favorably upon the fact that you want to transfer credits in (they can tell you’re trying to keep them from getting more money). If you take the classes before this fall, it might work, but it’ll be difficult. The other problem is that transferring credits in from other schools also means you may not actually get the full credits; for instance, I had friends transfer from SUNY schools, and NYU just left the 3-credit cap on courses even though there were 4-credit equivalents at NYU.

I transferred in with 16 credits and was actually ready to graduate at the end of junior year, but I stuck around to finish up a second major. If you come in with no extra credits, you can always max out your credit load at 18 by signing up for easy 2-credit classes (or even an extra 4-credit class if you can splurge on the extra 2 credits one semester) that will keep bumping up your number of credits. Even if all you have to take last semester is a couple credits, you can go down to being a part-time student to save on tuition that way; of course, you’ll then possibly lose any financial aid you’ve received.

Those are general points. Someone else will have to explain if Stern does things radically differently.
