I’m trying to transfer from UA to NCSU this upcoming fall. I’m(f) currently a freshman majoring in Psychology. I have 24 credit hours (which I know they require 30), I have a 3.57 GPA, involved in some clubs around campus. I don’t know if being a resident of NC will make any difference? (also I’m on the GI Bill which i don’t know if that makes much a difference either?) Anyways, because I don’t make the minimum 30 credit hours does anyone know if they’d accept me if I had taken two maymester classes before the fall? Or is it worth the shot of just applying and hoping they will accept? Any advice is appreciated!
You actually do not need 30 to transfer, it is just recommended by NC State because it makes you more competitive. If you have less than 30 credits, they may go back to your high school record and standardized test scores, see here: https://admissions.ncsu.edu/apply/transfers/application-review/#recommendations-for-competitive-applicants
I’ve read about that! And I’m definitely taken it into consideration but honestly my scores for the sat/act were not high at all. Neither was GPA compared to now.
I was in the same boat as you last year. I ended up getting deferred despite having above the GPA. I called and spoke to admissions and asked for an exact reason i didnt get in, they said it was because i didnt have the 30 credits at the time of application
@PStransfer1842 did you apply again? I talked to someone at ncsu psych dept about my credits and they said I would be fine.
Summer school ?
@Publisher They said that even if I were to take a maymester or summer course it wouldn’t be able to transfer towards my admission i want to send for fall 2018
@quietstarfish yeah, I’ve applied for fall 2018.
I know the psych department is a bit more lenient about credits and how many you have going in. What exactly did you ask them about? Maymester classes definitely won’t count. State is real strict about that stuff.
My recommendation is apply, and if you don’t get in you can always apply for spring or fall 2019
But, to answer your question about North Carolina residency, that does help you. So, if you end up not getting in then going to wake tech will help you because that’s a North Carolina community college. Have you looked at the transfer requirements page for psychology?
@PStransfer1842 I asked her if my credits would be an issue since I only have 24. I didn’t give her much information that I gave on here but to her, she said I would be fine. I am considering Wake Tech for the fall semester and knocking out a couple courses. Maybe they would accept me by spring semester. I have looked at ncsu’s transfer requirements for psych. It requires a 3.0 GPA and above, English Composition, and College Level Math. I have all those requirements.
Then I think you’ll be good!! I have all the requirements as well! If you have less than 30 credits they will look at your high school stats too, but since you have the requirements you shouldnt be treated as an incoming freshman.
But, wake tech is always a good option if you don’t get in. That’s what I opted for instead of returning to my university because ncsu and wake tech have a good relationship
