Hi all,
Right now I’m currently a student at Onondaga Community College and wrapped up my first year. With my credits and AP scores from high school, I’m just one class away from getting my Associate’s Degree. I want to pursue a career in the field of digital forensics, but I have no idea where I should go. My school used to list a few schools they had transfer agreements with (Utica College, HIlbert College, and RIT) but when I went to talk to an advisor I learned that those were no longer in place. My next option was to look at other schools in and out of state, and I stumbled upon Champlain College.
It’s a very expensive school, and after all is said and done, it’s roughly $57k a year; I’m offered $15.5k in aid a year, not including work study. I’d really like to go to this school but I know that it would be a lot of debt to have on my head and probably not the best option, especially since I’m estimated to be done in five semesters. I do work, but a lot of my paycheck goes into paying off my car loan and insurance. My mother offered to help me with school, although my sister will be on the college hunt in three years so I don’t know how sustainable that will be. And my father has his family to worry about, and could certainly help me out, just not in a substantial form.
I suppose I’d just like some general advice on schools I should consider, or ways to possibly circumvent a sticky situation in going to Champlain. I personally don’t like the area of Utica very much and strongly disliked RIT while my brother was there (he dropped out) so if anyone knows of any other schools in New York or the Northeast with a computer forensics program, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
