I am currently a student at NYU on the pre-med track. I am posting this thread on the pre-med topics forum because I think this is more relevant here than in the transfer forum (however, I'll be sure to post this in the transfer forum should I get little to no responses).

So the question is: what problems do you see with transferring into "strong" pre-med schools (specifically JHU), if my reasons for wanting to transfer are strength (particularly in my tentative major: biology) of the program as well as several important reasons (such as my desire to go to a smaller school with a traditional campus, yada yada)? I am doing relatively well here (GPA wise), but I feel as though I could be taking more advantage of resources at JHU. Thoughts?

EDIT: By the way, this is hypothetically assuming that I actually get in to JHU...which I am not exactly the most optimistic about. But let us say, some school like JHU.

i understand JHU is a very good premed school, but NYU is also very good. There are definately research opportunities and such considering NYU has an excellent medical school there. I suggest if you enjoy NYU (you have made good friends and enjoy the atmosphere) that you stay. It may not be worth it considering you will have to adjust to a totally different environment. So I would suggest you transfer only if you dislike NYU and wish to leave it. Good luck!

Bruinboy, it's not that something is wrong with my school. Rather, it is the "fit" between what I want and what it offers. There exists no traditional campus here, and the school is extremely large...I could go on, but those are 2 of my biggest reasons. On the other hand, there are many people here who love the atmosphere; I'm just not one of them.

ah ic, i thought you meant that the bio program at nyu isn't good or something (which isn't true). Anyways, if it is a personal reason then it is justified to transfer out. As to ur first question, there isn't anything wrong with transfering to a better school.

i completely understand. there is no traditional campus, but to some that may be a plus. So if you're not enjoying yourself, then by all means you should transfer. If this is your first semester, i suggest you give it a shot before giving up alltogether. Good luck.
