Transferring from a Top 15 School to another Top 15 School - Good or Bad?

Does the school you matriculate from matter at all?

Would transferring from a “top” school to another “top” school give an advantage, disadvantage, or is it not really considered?

What do you mean?

Are you asking whether employers will care why you transferred schools?

I think OP is referring to how the target college would look at it, if I’m not mistaken.

It really depends on how strong your reasoning is.

On one side you’re coming from an academically rigorous environment, so the target college will expect you to be ready to handle their academics. On the other hand, what reasoning do you -really- have by transferring from Yale to Harvard, for example? Better city? Lack of resources at Yale? Yeah, no.

The opposite applies to someone from say, a community college. They have every reason in the world to transfer- it’s their objective from day one. But on the other hand, their preparedness may be in question.

Who prevails at the end of the day? Your guess is as good as mine hahaha

Regardless of the tint though, you should have a better reason than “their graduates make more money” hahaha.

Yes, I was referring to what AGoodFloridian describes. My reasoning is similar; I think they recognize I’d be able to handle the academics, but they also may have a harder time believing the legitimacy of my application.

Just try to think about the things you don’t like about the school you’re at, but then talk about the ways the other schools are better in that same sense. Positivity > negativity.

Also take into consideration exaggerated ratings of schools. A lateral move is worth it if students at new school are more worldly, professors are happy, location is better, internships or co-ops are healthier et al. IMO, the school you graduate from should indeed be a source of pride.
