Transferring from CC to SDSU

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend, who is majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Physical Therapy. He plans on completing ALL major pre-reqs during this and the next academic year for Fall 2014 admissions. However, he will not be able to accomplish all his GE courses in these two years, and will end up missing four classes (form the Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences requirement).

Because of this, and his location in NorCal, he will not qualify for guaranteed admissions/TAG. How hard is it for someone outside of the San Diego region to transfer into SDSU, and will his incomplete GEs slim or completely impede his chances to transfer?

Any information will be great- thank-you in advance!

SDSU is pretty impacted…mostly because of it’s location.

My suggestion is to tough it out and take some summer GE courses. They receive a lot of applications, so it would really depend on how high his GPA is. I imagine a lot of people will be applying for his major.

He should look into more than just that one college. I hear Long Beach is a nice place to live.

He will unfortunately be taking classes for both summer sessions this year and still would need those 4 GE classes, haha. Unless he wants to take more than two classes per summer session, or if they count the summer right before admittance, he can’t do much else.

I will suggest looking into other CSUs, though. Are the other CSUs (LB and LA specifically) as anal about having all your courses completed before applying?

I don’t know about CSULA. Personally, I would never set foot on their campus.

Long Beach is pretty anal about things. I think Cal Poly Pomona might be more lax about things, but that’s just my experience coming into my major. I know people who got into the same major as me without having completed any of the physics sequence or math higher than Calc II.

There were tons of Kinesiology majors at my orientation this past July.
