I'm currently a student at Mesa who is TAG-ing into UCSD for Fall 2010. My IGETCs are all done and I'm just finishing up major pre-reqs before transfer (majoring in geophysics).

Due to the state budget crisis, San Diego Comm. College Dist. (SDCCD) is cutting back on courses that they offer for the summer session. This is potentially bad news for me, because I need to take a chem and bio class over the summer session to complete the second courses of the chem and bio sequences (both are two-course sequences) and the possibility exists that SDCCD will not offer these particular courses over the summer-- instead offering only the first courses in each sequence.

Not finishing the sequences before transfer for me means I would have to take Chem 6B and 6C, as well as take BILD3 as if I hadn't even taken the first Bio course at Mesa. A serious PITA.

If I can't score those classes over the summer then "Plan B" is to take the classes over the Fall at Mesa while a student at UCSD. I've met UCSD students in some of my classes at Mesa so I know it's possible to do. Do I need to somehow maintain full-time status at UCSD? How does the process work? I'm guessing that UCSD must have some limitations on this, otherwise I would imagine most of the student body would be at Mesa, Miramar, and City College trying to crank out GEs. What are those limitations?

I know some folks will suggest to take the classes in the Fall and then transfer during Winter 2011 session, but UCSD scrapped Winter transfers recently due to their own problems with the state budget, so that's a no-go. Next admission period after Fall 2010 is Fall 2011, and I'm operating on a tight budget. I can't really afford to wait a whole year to transfer due to two classes. Similarly I can't afford to do an extra year at UCSD just to finish the course sequences there either.

I might be panicking about nothing, but SDCCD has already had to shut down their winter intersession period due to budget woes. I'm finding it difficult to be optimistic.
