I'm a freshman at Claremont McKenna and I'm strongly considering transferring in large part because of the insane social scene here. I feel like the campus turns into one giant frat every weekend and I just overall feel like I don't fit in here.
I'm very academically inclined and am looking to transfer somewhere that's very academic, and preferably with a strong International Relations or Government Program.
Right now my list is Barnard, GW, Emory, and Tufts.
Any suggestions on schools I should look at or just general advice on transferring would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey NerdyGirl,

I transferred TO CMC and I completely understand your reasons for wanting to transfer. Your GPA this semester is going to be very important. Do you know approximately what you’ll be getting? I transferred from W&M and that should be a school on your list as a safety at least (52% accept rate for transfers). W&M is very solid for IR and Gov and has a much more academic feel than CMC. PM me for more advice.

I know 2 people who have transferred from GW because they felt like people partied too much (among other reasons). That being said, if you are interested in GW, you might as well investigate American U. Have you checked out Kalamazoo? The Massachusetts women’s colleges? U Chicago? Macalester? Earlham?

I looked at UChicago but I felt like their core curriculum would make getting credit for classes really complicated. Even though CMC is outside of LA Claremont itself is tiny and I realized I want more of a city environment (which is why I’m not looking at W&M)

Do not go to GW if you’re looking for an academic environment. The students here are very unmotivated in their academic career. and if you don’t like the whole frat atmosphere, you should know that the greek organizations are growing and expanding and do play an important part in the social scene.
