I was accepted to Georgetown and went to Georgetown my freshman year of college and a really serious incident happened between me and a guy and while I was given alternative assignments and an easier workload, I still couldn’t function as well as I am normally capable of. I had a 3.6 first semester and still don’t know what I have second semester as my GPA because of incompletes and an extended semester. There is no way I can stay in Georgetown or D.C. after what happened and I am thinking of either taking a semester off entirely and transferring or taking a semester at a community college and transferring. I want to transfer to Columbia but was wondering how hard it would be to transfer from there if I got a 4.0 at a community college first semester.
From what I understand, the transfer acceptance rate for Columbia is usually lower than the freshman acceptance rate. They require a minimum of a 3.5 to apply to transfer. I am sorry to hear about your situation. Are you sure you have explored all your options at your home university? At my college, no-contact orders can be enforced and they can make sure you two are separated. I would also look into how taking classes at a community college would affect your enrollment in Georgetown. Would you still be considered a student in case you decided to go back? It is competitive to get into Columbia and there is no guarantee you will get in.
Thanks so much for responding its not so much non contact orders that are the problem as it was the environment the event created. I really don’t want to go back because the environment was toxic and it wasn’t Georgetown’s fault in any way. Do you think I stand a chance at Columbia if I get a 4.0 and do you know of any ways to maximize chances of getting accepted?
