Transferring from CSUN to a UC advice please!

Hi! I’m currently enrolled at CSUN as an undergrad. I’m in my spring semester as a freshmen and going into Csun, after 2 years, I wanted to transfer to a UC but I was not aware of low chances of getting in from a CSU. I have always wanted to go to a UC but in high school my gpa was not competitive enough. CSUN is a huge commuter school and even though I don’t hate being here, I don’t really like it either. I feel like I don’t fit in with everyone here and the vibe feels rushed.

I am almost done with my lower division requirements, after my sophomore year of CSUN, I would have completed the requirements. I am a psychology major and want to transfer to a UC as a psychology major but I’m not sure how competitive it is. The schools that I am thinking of applying to is UCSC and UCSB. My gpa of freshmen year was a 3.0 and this semester I imagine it will be the same, if not maybe a little higher. I am interning at a psychology clinic, I got into The National Society of Leadership and Success here on campus, and I am a member of a Latina club on housing.

Any advice on whether I should just transfer to a CC or if it’s too late? Any predictions on what my chances would be getting into either UCs? I am more interested in UCSC.

Here is the UC transfer Admit GPA ranges based on campus and major: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

For UCSB 2017 data shows a 25th-75th percentile range of 3.29-3.79 for Psychology transfers

For UCSC 2017 data shows a 25th-75th percentile range of 3.07-3.67 for Psychology transfers

Have you checked to make sure all your lower division courses will articulate for the required UC courses?

I would apply for transfer but add UCR/UCM and maybe few other Cal states so you have more options. If you are not successful with your transfer, I would try to finish out my degree at CSUN and then consider a UC for graduate school.

Best of luck.
