Transferring from Drexel University

Hello, I am a Biology major at Drexel University. I hope to go into med school and become a doctor of some sort. I have been struggling though and I feel like transferring may be helpful to me and a good move. I am joining the Marine Corps and therefore I am dropping the co-op I originally signed up for. The co-op is a big draw to go to Drexel but it will interfere with training and I don't see the point in trying to do it along with the Marines. I want to stay in PA and I am looking at Pitt and Penn state as possible options. I started out in the wrong mindset and Drexel's term schedule is just very fast. I feel like I'm having exams every week then suddenly its already time to pick new classes for the next term. It just all goes by so fast. I feel like transferring can help me start over a bit, save my gpa (which is not where it needs to be), and just give me a change of pace. So given all that, what are some suggestions as to where I should transfer? Or any advice as to my decisions? What schools would you say might best help me get into med school?

For pre-med/biology, I would recommend transferring to Pitt if possible. It is much stronger all health sciences/bioresearch fields, except agriculture, than Penn State, and the hospitals/bioresearch facilities are right on campus to more easily facilitate getting volunteering/shadowing/research to plump up the application. PSU’s med facilities are two hours away from university park in Hershey.

Now that said, Pitt is urban like Drexel, so if the city environs is part of your problem in achieving the GPA you desire, consider the rural setting of Penn State.

The main thing is to go to a place you envision yourself being the most successful at.
