I am currently a freshman at ithaca college, I really enjoy the area, but am nervous that the education is not worth the price. I find it discouraging that I earned a 30,000 dollar scholarship and still require a 20,000 loan. I have an aversion to the idea of starting my life in such tremendous debt after graduation. I am currently majoring in chemistry and plan to stick with it. I'm considering transferring for sophomore year and have heard only good things about the SUNY network, especially Binghamton. I was top 10 percent of my high school class, had an 1880 SAT (only took it once), a handful of clubs, honors & AP throughout high school, maintained a 4.0 GPA all four years, active in the community (did things like play piano for the veterans periodically in the nursing home, taught elementary school children about the environment, spoke at environmental symposiums around my home state of NJ). Of course my grades for the fall and spring semesters of college must also factor in, but I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on transferring/SUNY in general.

is it possible to have a public school price tag and a private school education? :P
