Has it been done before?
Thoughts, advice, suggestions?

both good women colleges, but i think barnard outweighs mhc in terms of its location and joint courses with CC
as long as you have a good record and some contribution in your former school, your chance will be high

you need to talk about specifically why Barnard will be better for u, ie, if there’s a program offered by Barnard whereas it couldnt be found your previous college and why you value Barnard higher than MHC. you need to give details and convince AOs
And i think the admit rate of tranfer students is pretty high, with over20%

thanks alot!

I just curious, I’m also applying to Mt. Holyoke. Why are you transferring? Do you just not care for the school?

Hey

Well, Mhc is a really nice school but its a bit isolated and Im originally from New York City and I feel like I’m really cut off from reality by being here. Also, I’m sort of aiming to be in a more competitive environment since I want to go to law school after college, and I just don’t think that Mt. Holyoke has alot of resources for pre-law students like myself. Hence, I don’t feel very encouraged/motivated in my goals.

Stay where you are, rose22K. I had a law school prof who was a Mt. Holyoke College and Columbia University Law School grad. That’s the way to do it. I think it’s good that you spread your wings a bit and got the heck out of NYC for four years. I don’t know what “resources” you need as an undergrad to prepare to apply to law school that aren’t available at Mt. Holyoke. You can apply to any U.S. law school from anywhere on Planet Earth. You can have any undergraduate major. If you ask around, I’m sure you’ll find a zillion Mt. Holyoke grads who went on to the finest law schools in the country. How could they do that from Mt. Holyoke but you can’t? That’s a rhetorical question. I suspect you’re just a bit homesick for the City. You’ll get over it. You’re in a great place.

excuse me plainsman but I dont think its your place to judge where I should or should not be for college. I’ve already spoken to 2 women from mhc who transferred to Barnard this year and they understand how I feel completely. Not to mention, I’ve spoken to a handful of other students at mhc right now who are seriously considering transferring to Barnard as well.

Mhc might be a great place but if New York City is where I want to be (which arguably is a much greater place than South Hadley), that’s where I should be, don’t you think? That’s a rhetorical question.

No need to get offended…you asked a question and Plainsman gave you a perfectly acceptable response. Clearly you’ve already made up your mind, but there’s no need to be rude about it!
