I have made the decision to transfer from Sarah Lawrence after my freshman year. However, at SLC we do not get grades like other schools do and thus I am very worried about two things. Will any of my credits transfer? I do not want to repeat my Freshman year. How do other colleges view transcripts when they do not have traditional grades like A,B,C, nor does SLC have a core curriculum for freshman. Any advice is appreciated.
Talk to your advisor.
The registrar may also have done information.
Save everything you can to document your work for applying for transfer credits. This would include the course descriptions, syllabi, reading list and/or textbooks, old exams and papers, etc. This type of evidence can help you make your case for more credits.
Most schools only accept transfer credits for courses that are equivalent to their own offerings, so very unusual classes may be harder to get credit for. If you can change your second semester schedule, it’s something to consider when choosing courses.
The decision to accept credits is up to the receiving institution, so ask about transfer credit policies everywhere you apply.
I’m in the same boat! I’m hoping to transfer to a CUNY after finishing up this year. I’m definitely trying to take more traditional classes next semester but i’m hoping to talk to an advisor soon. If I find out any helpful information, i’ll come back and post about it!
Out of curiosity why are you guys choosing to transfer?
SLC keeps grades on file, I’m pretty sure. Ask the registrar.
The grades exist - you just have to ask for them! The registrar will charge you a small fee. I think it was about $5 10 years ago when I needed mine for grad school apps.
Sad to hear SLC wasn’t the right fit for you, but best of luck on your new path!
Bumping this thread… I also would love to know what made you decide to transfer. Is it purely the cost?
Sad to see this! (Even though I’m not certain as to who this is based on your username lol).
Also, you do get grades, but they’re under a different tab. On MySLC it should be under Unofficial Transcript (with grades). And, of course, you can ask registrars to send it with grades.
