Currently a student at University at Buffalo. I just transferred here from a community college in the city and am not really liking it as much as I thought I would. Binghamton was always my dream school but I was rejected twice, in my mind, based pretty much on my high school grades.

I did one semester at private school and had a 3.15 and then a second semester at a CC with a 3.69 making my total GPA a 3.48. I plan to apply to Binghamton for the fall.

What do you think my chances are? Do you think the fact that I've already been rejected twice will hurt me? Does the fact that I have 3 schools in my undergrad hurt as well? Should I include the optional essay?

Any advice would greatly be appreciated. I really want to attend Binghamton.

What is it that you don’t like about your current school? Just from reading your post, I think you should postpone any more transfers until you give one school a decent shot! You’ve only been at UB for two months…it’s a huge school with tons of majors, people, and activities to explore so you may end up liking it a lot more once you get acclimated. Are you living off campus? If so, you might want to see if you can move into the dorms for spring semester.

Hey Sk8ermom. I recognize you from the UB boards. Living off campus is definitely the main problem I’m having. Dorms were full so I resorted to sweethome which required a one year lease so I’ll be here until August 2011. I haven’t really found my place at UB yet but I am still giving it a try. Living off campus as a new student makes it pretty hard to meet people but I’m going to ride it out for the year. Overall, I do think Binghamton would look better on a resume though so I just want to apply in case I end up not liking UB for the rest of the year.

Definitely make an effort to stay on campus…go to games, library, union, parties, etc, even an on-campus job can help. My kid was like a fish out of water last year, even living in dorms, but is loving life this year as she’s working on campus and venturing out more on the weekends, so meeting more people on her own and through friends. What is your major and how many credits do you have? Would transferring cause you to delay graduation?

I’m a business major. I don’t think my graduation would be delayed as most credits would transfer. If not, I’d take some summer courses this and or next year. I hope to have a job on campus next semester.

i too have 3 schools on my resume, a private skool, a cc and ub. im planning to transfer to the SOM at binghamton this spring but havent heard from them yet. i actually really like ub, but they dint accept me for their accounting program as they only accpet students in accting for fall, so i decided to do accounting in spring at bing and save myself some time.
btw living off campus sucks, i lived in south and my car was broken into, terrible place, south campus.

Interesting. I have the exact same, private, cc and UB. Its very hard to transfer into SOM so good luck. I am applying to SOM at UB for next year as well in case I don’t get into Harpur at bing. I like my apartment off campus but I hate being so removed from the student life. Best of luck to you and hopefully I’ll see you at bing.
