Transferring from UW-River Falls to UW-Madison

I am a 2nd-semester Computer Science major Freshman attending UW-River Falls looking to transfer to UW-Madison my Junior year.

I have created an excel-based PDF 2 year schedule that details my plan conveniently and simply: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/721838/2_Year_Plan.pdf

Unfortunately, I did quite poorly in High School. I received a GPA of 2.350, and a Rank of 334/ 441. I was caught up on the drama, the environment, and the attitude towards my education. After sliding-by my senior year, I received a 28 on my ACT and enrolled into the University of River Falls-Wisconsin.

I didn't mix well with high school, but I am doing quite well at River Falls. I have changed my work ethic due to my changes of lifestyle and environment. I can handle 19 credits and can balance academic life and social life comfortably.

I now have a speculated 3.9 GPA, and I am quite certain I can maintain this GPA for the next two years at River Falls.

I have registered (and soon to be accepted) on a study abroad traveling classroom in the Spring of 2010. The brief information can be found here: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/721838/ITCFlier.jpg

I didn't have any major extra curricular activities (besides many self-motivated ones) in High School. Now, in college, I work for the IT department and participate in the Chess Club.

[Questions]
1) How realistic are my goals for attending madison?
2) What preparations or modifications to my plan should be done?
3) Would I need to retake certain programming courses (Such as Programming III or Data Structures) at Madison due to their more theoretic approach to programming?

Any other comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much,

Napkin

I would say you have a pretty good chance, Napkin. I’m a freshman at UW-Eau Claire, and I’m trying to transfer to Madison this fall as a sophomore. I didn’t do well in high school, either (~2.9), but it seems that Madison doesn’t consider the high school record quite as much as some other schools. I’ve talked to them, and they say I have I good chance of getting in even after only one year of college if I do well enough. (I got about a 3.9 last semester.) I got a 34 on my ACT, but that’s about the only part of my high school record that’s good. Even so, they seem much more interested in the college record, so I don’t think your high school transcript will hold you back, especially after doing so well at River Falls. Good luck!
