My father recently moved to California whereas my mom is staying in Washington for a few more years because of work. I heard that my dad will be a California resident once he has lived there for 6 or 12 months. My question is, if I transfer to a cali school by the time my father receives residency, will that entitle me to in state tuition? I am a dependent student and am 19 years old. So my mother would be a Washington residence and my father would be California, and no they are not divorced.

a bit complicated of a situation you should call the schools in california to see what the advisor says. sorry i’m not much help but keep us updated on how it turns out

i’ll definitely be looking more into it and how my credits and stuff will workout regarding graduation and my major. But if anyone has or have had a similar scenario as I do, I’d greatly appreciate any feedback!

Here’s the UC guidelines. I don’t have time to read through them right now (running out the door), but there’s a section that pertains to your question…parents moving to CA etc.

I believe in CA that your parent would need to reside there for one full year prior to your enrollment. Your father’s work info. address and the taxes he will be paying in CA, should give you instate rates…but read and confirm:
