Transferring into CS?

Hi, I’ve been auto admitted but not accepted/denied to McCombs yet. I’m starting to have second thoughts about having chosen this major, but I’ve read horror stories about trying to switch into CS.

Can anyone bring me some insight on this?
How hard would it be to transfer to CS after having set my intended major as business 1st choice and school of undergrads 2nd?

Ready to feel the wrath…

Thanks.

lol what wrath… but i will tell you its going to be really really hard , like a 4.0 might not even get you into CS ,cause a i think a lot of people last semester at UT were upset when they didn’t get into CS with 4.0s ,so in short its going to be hard. very difficult

Even if I haven’t even started my first semester of school yet?

Go on your portal and put in your desired major change. It takes a few days to get updated. At least this was the case last year. If you put CS first and McCombs second - if you don’t get into either, they will put you into UGS as an auto admit. CS is going to look for super strong SAT or ACT math scores. If you don’t have that - maybe stay right where you are. There is a track at McCombs that is more math and science based that you can choose. I think it is called Science and Technology Management.

“Because the application deadline has passed, you may not update your first- or second-choice major selections. If you are admitted, you will have one opportunity to request a major change during the period from April 1 to May 15. (XNO3)”

I guess I will have to wait.

Oh sorry. He must have done it before the app deadline. He already had his acceptance to McCombs, then changed his first choice major. Now he wants back in McCombs through the internal transfer process!!

You are smart to try to be as sure as you can be about your major at UT. Good luck!

Thank you. May I ask why he’s on the fence between business and comp sci as well?

Sorry, I was not very specific. My LH S chose a Music Performance major over business. He went in with scholarship $ from the School of Music and decided to follow his passion. After spending a semester as a music performance major and making a lot of friends through the Marching Band that are business majors, he realized that McCombs is where he wanted to be for his major and his music could be his extra curricular activities.

McCombs is very upfront about the specific course requirements and the gpa needed to internally transfer. CS appears to not be so clear. On CC we rarely hear about students transferring into CS (internally or externally). So I can only imagine that it is even tougher than transferring into McCombs.
