Transferring into UCLA Communication Studies

So I didn't get into UCLA with my first choice major, Communication Studies, but I did get accepted into UCLA as a Women's Studies. Despite this amazing opportunity, I still want to study Communications. I got into UCSD as a Communications major. After some research, there is a slim chance that I could get into CS program.

"...Only regularly enrolled UCLA students may apply for admission to the Communication Studies major. Students must have at least 45 letter-graded units completed at UCLA by the close of Summer Session C (9/9/11). It is not necessary to complete all of the lower division courses before applying. However, students must have completed at least 2 of the courses included in the major, either lower or upper division. All work pertaining to the major must be taken for a letter grade.

There is no minimum grade point average required for admission.
Admission decisions are based solely on the current year's pool of applicants.
The Admission Committee's criteria for acceptance are overall academic proficiency and courses relevant to the major.

..."

Say I do all 9 classes this summer by end of SummSess C... I could qualify to apply. Question is... is there a good chance that I will get in? What are the odds?

Or should I go to UCSD as a Comm major?

I’ve heard you can transfer into Comm, but you’ll need a 3.8+ and it’ll be like re-applying…so you’ll have another shot. What are your career goals? I know a girl who did Bio at UCLA and was able to land an internship at a PR firm in Hollywood and now works there fulltime. Don’t forget the UCLA name holds a lot of weight alone.

What I’m going to try and do is double major (English and Communication Studies)… you should look into that. It’s basically the same process as applying into the major itself, like you listed. However, like the last poster, you should look into other things that’ll help you break into the media (if you’re doing mass media emphasis) business anyway, such as a minor in something else.

I want to continue doing theatrical marketing. I’ve been doing internships in this field for 2 years now and I definitely want to pursue marketing as my career. I have met a lot people who have studied something completely different and they work in the industry now. I just feel with the Comm major, I would be a better candidate. One of my friends graduated from Yale with a romance lit degree and now works for CW so I know it is possible. I guess I could continue minor in film and continue as a women’s studies. I dont know how to feel about this…

@indierockandroll - do you know the admissions rate if you apply over the summer?
