I will be a junior next year and would like to transfer from my current school. Unfortunately, I can't transfer for personal reasons until after the fall semester. I've never known anyone who has transferred mid year before - is it possible? Would transferring after the fall semester affect financial aid or potential scholarships?

Thanks for your advice.

You need to check the websites of schools you’re interested in, some colleges accept mid year transfers, others don’t. Also, you need to be sure they accept someone with as many units as you will have, some schools will not accept students with more than 2 yrs of credits (even if they are willing to only get credit for 2 yrs).

I’m not sure about FA, it is true that most FA is allocated to fr and transfers at the beginning of the school year. But if a school accepts spring transfers, one would think that they hold back some funds for these students. I would ask a school (in writing) what their FA policy is for spring admits. It is likely that merit aid is given away in the fall, but that’s something to ask about as well.
