Transferring next Fall... Housing issue

I’m freaking out… I’m in a 2+2 program with College of DuPage and Illinois and I’m transferring down next Fall. My cousin transferred down a few years ago from a community college, like me, and was able to go straight into an apartment. He recommended we go down ASAP and lock up and apartment before all the good ones disappear. Also, my professor at College of DuPage that is affiliated with the 2+2 program I’m in gave me information about where the good apartments are and where to look. So, about a month ago, my dad and I went down and ended up signing a lease.

Now I look on the website and at the bottom of the admissions information page it says that all new students are required to live in university housing. It says that transfer students are also included in this unless you lived in university housing at a prior institution. I’m coming from a community college so obviously I haven’t… and I already signed the lease… I know I’m not the only one that’s already signed a lease in my program, too.

One of the students in this transfer program that already transferred down to Illinois told us he was able to get around the rule somehow regarding the amount of credits he had earned. I’m kind of freaking out right now. I’ve already emailed 3 people including Illinois housing to try to figure this out.

Does anyone know any information on this?? thank you!

Do you have a link to this information? I’ve never seen this. From their Admitted Student FAQ -

"Question - Do I have to live on campus?

Answer - Transfer students may have the option to live in off-campus housing but are encouraged to consult with the Housing Information Office before signing a lease. Freshmen must live in University Housing or Private Certified Housing. For more information, review our Transfer Housing guidelines."

it’s at the very bottom of the page…

by “first-time” does it mean freshmen?

the housing department responded to my email, and told me it can be overruled if i have enough credits. I’m going to be a Junior with I believe 69 transferable credits from my current institution. if that’s not enough, then i don’t know what is

I imagine that will be enough. Are you completing an Associate’s?

yes, my associate’s will be completed at the end of the summer term and i’m starting at Illinois in the fall

Then you’ll almost certainly have enough credits to bypass the housing requirement.
