Im looking to transfer to UChicago for my 2nd year and i went to the website and it said “The University does not offer on-campus housing for students transferring from other colleges or universities”,and then on another part of the website it said “Entering transfer students are welcome but not required to live in the Houses.” and i’m just not sure if that means that if a transfer i have to find my own apartment or just that its not guarenteed to transfers but I can still apply.
*I’m sorry if this a stupid question but i just graduated high school and this is all new to me."
Yikes. The first is almost certain more correct and the second hasn’t been updated given current space constraints. You should email housing (via the address given on their contact us page) and let them know that there is contradicting information and to ask for clarification if there is any chance.
I would guess transfers will be able to get on campus housing again when the new new dorm opens in 2020 (maybe??? seems dubious but that’s what they say). If I’m reading your post correctly you want to transfer for the 2020-2021 school year you might be off the hook and able to get housing in a dorm.
I think getting placed in a house is a big part of attending UChicago and I think it’s a shame they aren’t able to accommodate transfer students right now.
I wish you the best of luck and go to college with an open mind. Who knows, you might not want to transfer after all! Hope things get better and you find yourself less lost and in need of help.
