Transferring Next Year

I really wanted to go to Northwestern, but was rejected. I expected it since my stats are very low compared to their average, but I was thinking about trying to transfer there for my sophomore year. I was wondering how much do they look at your high school transcript and SAT scores for transfer students? Are there any stats for average GPA for transfers? I think on their site it says that transfer acceptance rate is around 15-20%, so I guess I'd still have a small chance of getting in if I do well next year, right?

good question! What are some of the requirements?

im not entirely sure, but i imagine that if you've showed such interest in NU and your grades get much better in college, the improvement must count for something.

Do as well as you can next year and give it a shot - good luck.

Thanks. My GPA is about 3.65 weighted and my SAT scores were 1940, 750 on Bio, and 660 on US History. So it's not like I did terrible, but well below average for NU. So I guess I still have a little bit of hope if I do well next year.
Just another quick question here. I think I'm probably going to go to UIUC my freshman year. My other option would just be to go to a community college. Even though my GPA would be a little higher at a community college, would I still have a better shot if I transferred from UIUC? I want to go to Weinberg, not sure how much that matters.

Well, it's kinda tricky. Even UIUC's grading isn't known to be easy, the thing is you don't know if your GPA won't be good at UIUC. UIUC is a good school and it's a better place to fall back to if you get rejected by NU again. If you start with community college, you have to find a 4-yr college and you don't know where you may end up. I know you are thinking about getting some high GPA from community college so you will then be in a better position to get into one of the top schools. But I honestly don't know how adcoms view GPAs from community colleges.

i am applying for transfer to several schools next year (northwestern among them), and they have all told me that it matters not where you choose to go to school. What matters is how well you do.

Thanks, Sam. I've decided for sure to go to UIUC. At least that way I'll still be at a pretty good school if I do get rejected from Northwestern.
I have a couple questions about SAT tests. Do you think if I retake this upcoming SAT it will count for anything when I try to transfer next year? I have a 1940 right now and I know I can at least get it into the 2050 range if I do a little bit of studying. Do you think this will help me any? And it will be before I graduate if that matters at all. I'm willing to do anything that will help me a little bit next year.

IWin, I'm thinking of transferring also. I got a 1910 on my SAT I and I have a 3.9 UW average (I rank #1 though). As you can expect-I was rejected. But I love NU a looooooot! I didn't make that clear in my application though. My essay wasn't the best (when it could have been exemplary, especially since my major is Journalism) and my interview was alright (although I should have stated that NU was my number 1).
And I didn't even mention I play the acoustic guitar, that my family's income is not the best and ALSO I didn't send it any of my work. So yeah I expected getting rejected.
I will be attending NYU this year and hopefully I will be able to successfully transfer to NU (given that I maintain a pretty high average).
IWin, I'm sorry I can't answer any of your questions but that's because I need the same information as you do lol.

Yeah, I also could have spent more time on my essay, it wasn't all that great.
Well, hopefully with some hard work we'll both be accepted next year.

Keeping my fingers crossed here lol. Good luck!
