Transferring OOS credits to UCSC

Ok, I am 30 years old and returned to a community college two years ago. My dream is UCSC Business Management Economics.

Prior to CCSF, I was a partier and did not do great (2.61 GPA with 100 credits; I told you, not good.) This major drop is mostly due in part to a horrible semester in which I failed four classes; Interior design, Construction methods and materials, an independent study, and international relations. However, these are from community college in Maryland and one semester at UMD, so not sure what would transfer. Through CCSF, I have a 3.86 GPA with only two B's. Almost all of my courses required for economics are A's (including calculus); the only B in those courses was Financial Accounting. I am a California resident and have been for three years.

I guess my biggest question is: How do they calculate my GPA; is what I have on my transcripts for all courses (2.96) considered my GPA or do they only look at transferrable courses to calculate my GPA? Is there anyway for me to know what courses are transferrable? These courses are OOS and 8-10 years old. Do I have a shot in he!! of getting in? My personal essay describes the socioeconomic hardships I went through (quit school, continuous employment, financially independent). I work lots of hours and have been employed full-time in a demanding job since around 2004 and have very little EC, no tests scores, nothing. I did work a management position (director of auxiliary program) for an extremely prestigious D.C. school, don't know if that matters.

Part of me is thinking, if I don't get in, I should just apply to Berkeley next year; they do not take courses >5 years old so none of my previous grades would count at all; but then, I lose ALL of my gen-eds. and I am almost positive that out of my ridiculous amount of classes that most of my gen-ed requirements will be met for UCSC.

Any info much appreciated!
Don't do what I did! Get that education!

Oh, and no idea if this matters, but I have been full time for three semesters; last semester, I took ANAT14, AST 1, short calculus 1, and probabilities and statistics. I received all A’s.

Also, I’ve been accepted to SFSU and SJSU.

anyone? i’m so confused about transferring credits; any insight at all will help tremendously

To anyone in the same boat, I got accepted.
