Hey so I'm going to be in 9th grade next year, and was thinking on attending a private school. But as most of you know, the admission process ended a while ago (personal issues were taking place at the time and I didn't have time to apply) I tried everything I possibly could to persuade the admission offices of many private schools to still accept me, but nothing seemed to work (if anyone has anymore tips on persuading them to accept me late in the process, that would be great).

Would transferring sophomore year be a good idea? Would colleges look at me any differently for transferring late? (like would they think I'm somehow irresponsible for transferring late?) And from the people that have done it, was the transition smooth or was it tough?

I’m going to a boarding school next year as a new 10th grader. About 1/3 of the 10th grade class are new students at boarding schools, so you’ll be fine. You’ll make lots of new friends, and from what I’ve heard, the transition is really smooth. You’re going to a boarding school. Colleges aren’t going to think you’re irresponsible of you start 10th grade instead of 9th grade.

What schools are you applying to?

My daughter started in 10th grade and she’s having a blast. I started in 10th grade as well. It’s normal, in fact many schools take a significant portion of their graduating class in 10th grade (at my daughter’s school they take 2/3 in 9th and the final 1/3 in 10th.

So feel free to apply and know it won’t be held against you with colleges as you’ll be in good company.
