I was accepted to the school and have the choice of transferring here to finish up 3 semesters before graduating. That, or I stay at the boring 93% commuter school that I currently go to.
Is this a bad idea, and will I have trouble making friends at this point? Because I hear most students move off campus their junior and senior years, so would it be likely that i’d be one of the only juniors in the dorm i’d be placed in?
as a transfer student, you will be placed on alumni quad which consists sophomores (i think), juniors, and seniors. living on campus is a great way to meet people, but you should try getting involved with some sort of organization. i was a commuter student myself, and i joined a professional fraternity (which you would be able to do as well), and that completely changed my college experience for the better. obviously, you do not have to join a fraternity; there are numerous clubs/orgs that will match your interests i’m sure.
do you only want to transfer because you are not meeting many people? what school are you currently attending? also, is there any clubs/orgs your current school offers that you are interested in? take advantage of them, if so!
PS: you’d be transferring at a time where UAlbany’s campus center renovations should be done/nearly done, so you’d have that improvement of the campus to enjoy. i loved my time at UAlbany!
Hey thanks for the answer, sorry for the late response. I’m currently attending SUNY Farmingdale; it’s a very antisocial school. Do you know if all transfers are REQUIRED to live on Alumni quad? As I would prefer to just be placed in a regular dorm if available.
