Transferring Student

Dear Forum,
I really need help regarding admissions and I would appreciate your opinion. I am a transferring student and I plan on attending a UC this Fall 2021 hopefully. I have completed my science courses up to Organic Chemistry 2 and have straight A’S and B’s for those courses that are part of my major. I also completed my Math courses with A’s and B’s. However, completing my IGETC, due to special circumstances I received 3 C’s during my two years in CC. Those 3 C’s have nothing to do with my major which is Biology/Chemistry. I did very good in my UD courses as I mentioned and the rest courses straight A’s besides those 3 C’s. I am really stressed out and I lost hope that UC’s will accept me because those 3 C’s dropped my GPA to a 3.47. I want to know if I have a chance getting accepted if I actually explain the reason behind the C’s. I am really scared and I put my all into this. Please let me know what you think. Do I have any chances?

Here is a link for the UC Transfer GPA admit ranges by major and campus so you can gauge your chances at your target UC’s:

Unless you have extenuating circumstances for your grade drop, do not try to explain the C’s.

Yes, you have a chance at several UC’s so look over the link. Also with a 3.47 you should have been able to TAG to all the UC campuses that participate in the TAG program for a guaranteed admission. So did you apply for TAG?

I’d add that you should run your reasons by a xfer counselor at your CC to see what they think before you put them in your app. A lot of students have what they think are valid reasons but it involves things like blaming the instructor, time spent on ECs, etc. These are not seen as excusing the poor grades by adcoms.
