Transferring to Berkeley after a rocky start

Hi all.
I've experienced Berkeley through Summer Session/sitting-in and I've decided to try to transfer, but my biggest worry is that I have been in an out of school irregularly. I have had some mental problems for a few years and am finally getting treatment.

My long stat story:
1. Good public highschool with 3.3 GPA/1400 SAT
2. Two 5-score APs and two CC classes in HS.
3. UC Santa Barbara for 1 quarter 12 units 4.0 GPA. Left on PELP.
4. Transfered to UC Davis for 1 quarter 12 units 3.0 GPA.
5. Summer abroad at UC Davis 4.0 GPA.
6. UC Davis started 1 quarter and withdrew.
7. No school for 2 years.
8. UC Berkeley Summer Session 4 units 4.0 GPA.
9. Berkeley CC 3 units 4.0 GPA.
10. UC Berkeley Summer Session again 4 units 4.0 GPA.
11. Sacramento CC 3 units 4.0 GPA.
12. Currently: Sacramento CC 12 units 4.0? GPA.

My questions:
1. Is there any hope for someone who has been *in and out of school, *taken few units at a time, and *withdrew? Will that be looked on very badly because it indicates instability?
2. Does my series of 4.0's with very few concurrent units say anything good or not?
3. Can HS SAT count at this point? I've seen conflicting info.
4. I hear that Diablo Valley and Berkeley CC are the CC's to go to for a better chance of Berkeley Transfer. Is that valid?
5. What's the number one thing I should be doing now to improve my image for Berkeley transfer admission?
6. I am technically still on "Planned Education Leave Program" at UCSB -- I can return at any time. Is there a better chance of transferring if I go back to UCSB for a quarter and transfer for there, or if I transfer from a CC?

IIRC U.C’s won’t take CC units if you attend a U.C you can only take C.C classes during the summer .

So if you do go back to UCSB i don’t know if they will take your C.C units.

One option that works best for you would probably to go back to UCSB and finish U.C repriocity and major pre-reqs then transfer if you got a 4.0 there i don’t see why you can’t continue and with a 3.7+ gpa in a U.C you should have no problem transferring to UCB

Hey so, I don’t know if I can be much help, but I’ll try to answer your question if you can help me out too.

While it doesn’t look great, you have shown each time that you can succeed academically. Let them know what happened, there are portions on the application to do so.

It does say a lot of good to show you can succeed, but at the same time, never taking more than 12 units is kinda bad. Also, it really depends what classes you’ve taken, because getting an A in Underwater Basketweaving isn’t all that impressive (… well actually, I would think it would be really difficult to get an A in that, because I can’t weave a basket, let alone underwater).

I really REALLY doubt that high school will count for anything at all. You may have to put some high school info, but if you have over 60 semester units, then for sure it will not count.

I can’t speak for Berkeley CC, but I actually lived 3 minutes away from DVC and can tell you while there is a high transfer rate to Berkeley from there, it is by no means guaranteed. The big plus is that it is a very active campus, so you can join a lot of clubs and stuff there. In addition, I believe that Berkeley does take into account how close the applicants are, at least to a small degree. I would say if you can, attending DVC is a good way to go.

Right now, all you can do is just keep succeeding in academics, try to be consistent, find a very good way to explain your situation, talk to admissions advisors, etc. Besides that, there isn’t a whole lot.

Your chances are the same regardless, you will be counted as a UC-UC transfer student because you have coursework at another UC.

Okay, so finally, my question for you:

I’m currently a freshmen at UCSB in my second quarter. I got a 3.9 GPA first quarter with 14 units. Right now I’m taking 17 units. Because of personal reasons, I need to move closer to home. I was wondering how exactly you went about transferring from UCSB to UCD… did you go through the normal application process? Or did you transfer the quarter following UCSB? If so how did you do that? Any info on how you did that would be GREATLY appreciated.

HS stats don’t count anymore. why would info conflict if a student has already graduated from there ?

whatever your major is, do some EC’s that are involved with it. you should have some talks with your college counselor and call up UCB and find out what they can do for you.

Good luck obtaining your official transcripts. I sort of feel you in that case becus i’ve been to many CC’s ahahah. =[
