Transferring to Berkeley

I'm a student at first year at CC trying to figure out what exactly could improve my chances to get into Berkeley (HAAS specifically). I'm in the honors program for my CC. I didn't apply to any schools in high school, and my SAT's are pretty low. I have 600+ hours though in community service and I'm a staff member of a non-profit organization that runs large festivals in San Diego for the poor in other countries. I currently got hired as an intern at the sheriff's department to work on computers for them (trying to major in business with an emphasis on informations systems).

Is there any advice that any of you guys could give me to help me get into Berkeley?

lol those community service hours wont help you. the internship you have is quite interesting but I dont see how it helps either. What you could do is become a leader in a club or student government.

Do Honors, Get Good grades, Keep Your GPA as high as you can, Hope your major isn’t impacted, write a great personal statement, and pray to get in.

@ Investment …uhh to me 600 hours of helping out at a non profit orginization looks a lot more impressive than becoming a leader at a club at your local community college. Just my opinion.

@twist…uhh berkeley doesn’t care about what you do in high school. Fact.

^yup ive heard this. theyd rather you stick to things youve done at community college. and Berkeley wants leaders, twistnswif…

Everything you’ve done in high school is now useless or vanished. Only thing that counts now is CC stuff.

Haas actually isn’t that bad. Though it says 6% admit rate, 66% of applicants were automatically rejected for not completing the 6 or 7 course breadth, so that translates into a 25% admit rate.

However, Berk is removing the 7 course breadth so it’s probably going to get a lot more competitive. Follow BerkeleyOrBust’s advice as well as be a club leader and find some internships that’s more relevant to business in particular.
