Transferring to CU boulder from CSU (currently starting 2nd semester at CSU)

I am planning on applying to university of colorado, boulder for the fall semester 2014. However, I have noticed a lot of people say apply when you have a good 30 credit hours logged, however, i currently have 17 after my first semester and i got 3 B's and an A for the semester. What do you think, should i still apply? Also to add, if i apply, which recommendation would count more, an old high school teacher, or perhaps a college professor recommendation. CU requires only 1, but which one would count more? If anyone could give me tips for my situation that would be appreciated! thanks!

Since you’re transferring within the CO system, your advisors at CSU would be the best at advising you, both on the number of credits & LORs.

yea, i plan on meeting with my advisor at CSU to discuss how I would like to transfer to CU if possible, the transfer deadline on the CU website lists the deadline as march 1st, so i still have a month. However, i plan on getting things sorted out sooner than that if possible, I plan on rewriting and using parts of my first college essay i used for CSU for the CU essay. Along with a new one for the second required essay. I have also not only started out the semester with 14 credits , but i also earned 3 math credits while taking an AP class during my senior year of high school and have maintained a min of 3.0 GPA for my first semester at CSU with my A and 3 “B” 's (not sure what this GPA is) I have a letter of recommendation from a former teacher, but she retired and CU is requiring a specific form for the LOR.

Does CU state who they want the LOR to come from? Most colleges want college instructors (prof/TA) to write them for transfers, but there are always exceptions. While it would be nice to have one from college, that’s often difficult as a fr. The best advice is always to send the best LOR you can get within the requirements of the school.

The link above is the form in which they would like a LOR, it says organization, but nothing that says a specific one or high positioned individual. I was thinking of adding a professor whom i have had this past semester; he is in a small class of around 20 people compared to the lecture hall sized ones, but he knows i am a hard worker. this is just a thought as of now however

You could call/email CU to be sure a HS teacher would be OK, however, I think that your prof sounds like an excellent person to write your LOR.

He is a german professor but he is pretty cool and knows i can get the job done most of the time. He is on the list for people that i will ask for a LOR, have to find a few more just as back ups. My ACT score was a 22, and my overall GPA by the end of high school was a 3.36. But i managed to get into CSU with its requirement of 23, 24 for CU isn’t much difference, but hopefully they take other factors like my AP high school classes into consideration as well.

If all your classes were 3 credits each, you would have a 3.25 as your cumulative GPA right now. To calculate your GPA (I’m not sure how many credits you had per class) you can use this: [Calculate Your GPA](http://www.back2college.com/gpa.htm)

i would say around the 3.25-3.29 GPA range i am guessing, but it’s still above average compared to the average college freshman’s first semester GPA standing. Hopefully, they will take it into consideration after CU receives all my paperwork
