Transferring to different cc affect admission?

Hello. I had a question.

I'm currently attending CC in Orange County.
But it seems like near the end of fall semester (around Dec), I might have to move to LA
and attend CC located in that area. I will apply for Fall '12 this Nov for Cognitive Science major in UCLA. I haven't completed my pre reqs yet..but I'll be done with it this coming Spring '12 (Except for Calculus 2) at CC in LA. Will moving/transferring to other CC before completing my pre reqs affect my chance of getting into UCLA? Is it better to just finish the pre reqs in current CC?

Sorry I think my wordings were a bit confusing :(

im almost doing the same classes as you. i think the calculus and physics series of courses are the most important when transferring.

Hi, I’m a transfer to UC Berkeley and was in the same situation you were in. No, it will not be a problem as long as the courses you take in series are at the same CC. For example, take all of the Physics series in 1 CC, take all of the calculus series in 1 CC. Take all of your university composition english classes in one CC. The GE courses that are not in series such as like 1 philosophy course, etc can be taken somewhere else as long as it’s transferrable. If you do take a series course interchangeably at different cc’s, you should get that settled with your counselor and an admissions officer at the UC of your choice. Hope this helps.

@ bummerdude07: omg really?? ;0 i am taking chem instead of physics. and haven’t taken any calculus course yet :frowning:
@ xcaliberse: thank you so much!! ur response was really helpful!!! i guess i should ask the counselor since i probably have to take calculus interchangeably at different cc’s ;)

@xcaliberse what if I take calc at one ccc and calc 2 at a different ccc even though they transfer as first and second at uc?

@jblightly

i did that i took calc 2 at a different cc and transfered it back at my original cc. so yes its possible

Yes, it’s possible, but speaking with actual admission officers from UC Berkeley, they look more into it if you took it interchangeably than if u took it throughout 1 CC. Meaning, they will question and find out whether the combination of the courses will suffice. I guess not EVERY CC has the series the same as every other CC. For example, city college of san francisco has their physics series split into 4 semester-length classes, while college of san mateo has their physics series split into 3 semester-length classes. Either way, it’s safer to check w/ an admission officer or a counselor at the very least. Or even a school rep from the university.
