Transferring to LAC Advice??

Currently I am a freshmen at a local state university looking to transfer next year to possibly a LAC or an art school.
I applied last year to schools like RISD and SCAD and got pretty good scholarships just of course not good enough…so I am now considering liberal arts colleges with a strong art department although I am not completely opposed to reapplying to art schools as I’m working on amping up my portfolio (with the hopes of securing more of that tiny endowment).

I am mainly interested in illustration but am rethinking the art school environment because I also want a well rounded education and want to have the ability to take diverse classes. Ideally schools that are close to but far enough from major cities would be great but I am open.

I’m looking for schools preferably on the east coast and better yet south east.
I was top 10% with a 4.8 weighted GPA in highschool with pretty good SAT/ACT scores but probably not ivy league.
I am really just worried that I ruined my chances of going to a good school due to having to go to a below average state school…
Any advice on schools I should apply to or questions are appreciated!!
(sorry if I left out information new to cc)

Many local state Us are very good schools but because they are local they aren’t perceived as such. The chances of you getting any major merit $ as a transfer student are not good at all. And IMO an art school is not the way to go. My D’s best friend went to art school and dropped out after two years because what had been a passion became drudgery with having to meet timing requirements for projects. I think going for a more well rounded education iwth an art program would be best. How much can your family afford and what is your home state?

It is also very hard to get merit aid as a transfer student.
