Transferring to New Paltz

Hey everyone. Im trying to transfer to New Paltz, but I am very self conscious about it. I did very well in high school, I went to Rye High School, I took 2 AP classes, I took many EC's, I went well over the amount of community service hours that was required. I also graduated with Honors. I had mostly B's my junior year, but i had mainly A's and one B my senior year. The problem is i havent done so well in the college that im in now. I had a rough time my first semester my freshman year, and i ended up switching majors from Art Therapy to Art Education. Since that change, my grades have greatly improved. Last semester (fall 2012) my GPA for the term was a 3.170. Which is great, but my com. GPA is a 2.444. Which isnt HORRIBLE, but its not where I know it could be either. I also believe that I am under 45 credits, i think I'm 40 credits. The only things that New Paltz asked me to sent them was my current colleges transcript, my high school transcript, and to submit an art portfolio through their website. They havent asked to see my SAT scores, at least not yet. Id like to know if i have a fair chance at getting into New Paltz, and what I can do to improve my chances. Will they take my high school grades into a decent amount of consideration? Im also the treasurer for a club that im a part of in my current college if that helps. Please let me know! thank you.

oh, i forgot to add that im TECHNICALLY a sophmore at my current college. but because i switched majors at the end of last year, I basically started over this year.

i ALSO forgot to mention that I’m a New Yorker, I heard that they are more likely to accept people in state

Thank You! :D
