I applied early decision to Northwestern for the 08 fall admission but i didn't get in. I'm currently attending santa monica college (a community college in LA) and going for the spring semester to Brandeis University. my GPA is 3.7, have great recommendations, EC (student gov, varsity soccer capt, etc...)I got a 5 on 2 ap's that i took and 3 on the other took and was award the ap scholar award with honors because of that but my SAT weren't that amazing though i got 1780. I'm not from here english is my third language and I've only been living in the U.S for about 3 years so I'm not used to the multiple choice which explains why i didn't do great on the SAT.

I'm debating between WCSA or the school of communications. anyone have any ideas about what i can do to get my chances of getting in higher. do I actually have a chance? I'm planning on retaking my SAT anyways. any information would be very appreciated.

Northwestern is a very transfer friendly school and is commonly listed as one of the top 3 "easiest top 20 schools to transfer into." It has an acceptance rate of 33%, but the pool is very self selecting so don't let that lull you into a false sense of security.

Focus on getting to know your professors well, be an active participant in class, keep your grades up, and of course, study for those SATs.

I was also an ED Northwestern '08 student who didn't get accepted. Best of luck to you though =)

well actually they say on the university website the school of communications is very competitive, and the number of available spots are much less than for the college of arts and sciences. There are probly less people applying for these spots, but I wouldnt presume its easier to get into the School of Communication.

Admission to specialty schools like communications is gonna be pretty sensitive to the number of applications. A relatively small change can make the admission go from easier than WCAS to harder. I don't think anyone can predict which one will be easier.

Are you going to be happy with Brandeis if you don't get into Northwestern? I only ask because you have the benefit of being a Cali resident to take advantage of transferring into UCLA or USC who have strong communication schools/programs from whatever JC you were attending in LA. You definitely shouldn't use Brandeis as a stepping stone to think that it'll get you into Northwestern as a transfer student just because its not a community college.

If you seek fall 09, admissions, youll also have to take into consideration that no one at Brandeis will know you enough(teachers-counselors) to give you excellent letters of recommendations for sophomore transfer.

yeah I think I would be happy to go to Brandeis if I dont get into nu. and I did consider the uc but I was interested in living something different which made me chose Brandeis over the other school in cali. NU was always my first choice thats why I really want to give it a second chance as a transfer student
