Transferring to Stony Brook

Hi all,

I have a few questions regarding my possible transfer to Stony Brook. I currently attend Farmingdale State College where I have a GPA of 3.96 with 55 credits. I am currently enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program. First and foremost I'd like to know what my possibilities are of getting in. I understand that I'd be transferring from an Engineering Technology program to an Engineering program. Does this reduce my chances of being accepted? I also understand physics and calculus are important factors to being admitted into the Mechanical Engineering program. I received an A in calculus 1 and I'm currently doing well in calculus 2. As for physics, I made the mistake of taking algebra based physics rather than calculus based physics. Despite receiving an A in both algebra physics 1 and 2, I understand that these do not properly transfer. Because of this, I have elected to take the correct physics 1 and 2 over the summer at Nassau Community College. I emailed this to admissions and they said they have attached the email to my application. Also, I used the online credit evaluation to get an estimate of how many credits would transfer and would like to know how accurate it is.

I'd also like to know if anyone has made the transition from engineering technology to engineering and would like to know how it went (specifically from Farmingdale to Stony Brook)? I know Stony Brook's curriculum is going to be much more rigorous than Farmingdale, and was wondering if I'd already be too far behind (being at Farmingdale for 2 years) to catch up. I read a very similar post that was posted back in 2009 but the member hasn't been active since 2011 so I have no way of contacting him to find out how it all went for him.

At Farmingdale I've taken up to 19 credits in a semester. If I was to go to Stony Brook, I wouldn't be taking more than 16. If I do get accepted I will be dorming so I'd no longer be working weekends, so I'd have plenty of time to dedicated to my studies.

Basically I'd like to know:
What are my chances of being accepted?
What are my chances of being accepted in to the Mechanical Engineering program?
The website says beginning April 1st, but how long after should I expect my decision?
How accurate is the online course evaluation guide?
Will the course work change be overwhelming to the point that cannot handle it?

Thanks in advanced.

You should receive a decision by April 1st.
