Okay so I wasnt sure whether this would go here or the nursing but here it goes.bit of background. Im currently 19 and attending CC and finishing up my Pre-Reqs for nursing. I just need two more after this fall semester. But it worries me as I feel I dont have the grades to make it into nursing school. Cal state chico is the one I would like to go to. I currently have a 3.1 and am currently taking Microbiology,Stats, and anatomy. With O chem and Physiology to finish up. If I dont get into nursing school for the next school yr in the fall I was thinking of just going after becoming a Chem Engineer and transferring to UC Davis. However that will take maybe two more yrs at my CC to complete the courses they require for admission. im honestly so lost, and I dont know if I should try for engineering and how I would go about doing this if I dont get into nursing school.

And one more thing, If I do the ChemE is it possible to complete some of the Pre-Reqs(say i complete 4) at my current school then finish them up over there at davis, granted I get in?
Thanks

Davis requires a 3.1 GPA for admissions to chem e, so you’ll need to keep your GPA or even improve it while taking what will likely be harder classes. Davis, IMO, has an unusually short required pre-req list that sets students up for a difficult time after transfer. If you only complete the minimum pre req’s you can not finish in 2 years after transfer.

I’m going to be totally honest: if you are having a hard time pulling a 3.1 in the classes you’re taking now, you may not be capable of mastering your upper level classes in chem e. It’s not easy. Only you know what you’re capable of though.

You should go to assist and look at the transferable classes to your major, and take a lot of them before transfer if you do go the chem-e route. Your limiting factor will likely be your mathematics. I had to start at trig, so I’ve taken 7 math courses at CC for chem e. Hopefully you’re further ahead than I was.

Straight chemistry or biochemistry are viable alternative majors for you, look into those as well.

Have you spoken with ChemE’s to understand the nature of the job and to think about whether it is a fit for you? Someone choosing it because they think it pays well and will lead to a job is missing the forest for the trees; if it isn’t a job you want to do then their career is likely to be short and disappointing. So before you spend 2 years going down the ChemE path spend 2 months figuring out if its really right for you.

For an official answer talk to a Davis advisor when they visit your CC or go see a xfer counselor, but the link I just gave lists 9 required classes. They even say
9 required minus the 4 you want to take leaves 5 missing, which means auto-deny.
