I'm an Anthro major transferring to UCLA next week and what has been recently on my mind is ensuring I graduate on time.

I've signed up for 3 courses this fall quarter, as recommended by my UCLA orientation advisor. 2 Anthro courses and 1 Communications course.

I keep getting emails from the UCLA Anthro dept. of random courses that have open seats still available. My concern being whether or not any specific Anthro course is appropriate towards my major; not wanting to take frivolous courses that don't lead me closer to graduating sooner, rather than later.

My sister goes to a Uni in N.Y. and she managed to graduate in a total of 3 years...and I'm wanting to tackle quite a bit.

My daughter will be a senior at UCLA this fall. She is a communications major. She will graduate on time while even spending the fall of her junior year studying in Paris and having very few of her units transfer. She has also managed to hold internships while going full time for a couple of quarters. One of her best friends graduated in 3 years by going summers and not messing around. Take the 3 classes your first quarter just to figure things out. If you need to take 4 classes each quarter and you will be fine.

As for which Anthro classes you should take, you should look over the major requirements carefully to make sure you know exactly which classes you are supposed to take. Some will be required core classes and some you will be able to choose from a variety of Anthro classes. Study the required classes list and go from there.

I transferred last yr. Took 3 classes all year long and 4 in the summer (2 in Session A and C). I’ll be graduating a quarter early, and that’s if I were to take 3 classes per quarter for the next 2 quarters. I’m a Poli Sci major (Impacted), and I was one class short when I came here. Seriously, it’s not that hard to get classes especially w/ upper-div courses. Just make sure you show up on the first day if you want to add; generally speaking, if you are on the Waitlist, the professor will eventually add you.

This is just my two cents, and also from what I heard from some of my friends who had already transferred. It is quite easy to graduate on time in a quarter-system school, as long as you take at least 3 classes every quarter. Even if you want to double major / switch major, it is still doable since you will have 5 quarters left plus 1 or 2 summer sessions. On the other hand, one of my friends who transferred to Cal 2 years ago has been kicked out of the school last Spring and just managed to complete his degree via summer session lol. I believe it is much harder to graduate in time with semester system than quarter system. Again, just my two cents. Don’t worry too much about that! It is doable

You need to become familiar with the Anthropology major requirements. I am sure that Anthro as a major has some elective requirements that will fulfill the anthro major. Look at the major requirements, and see if they are specific as to what electives you can or cannot pick. Then add any anthro elective that is still available.
